New meeting location: Starting with our January 5th, 2009 meeting, all Orchid Society of Arizona monthly meetings will be held at the Arizona State Veteran Home, 4141 North S. Herrera Way , (formerly known as N. 3rd St., but only the street sign north of Indian School Rd. has been changed) Phoenix. Unchanged are: meeting start time of 7 PM and the day of the month – the first Monday of the month.

 

Special Notice
New Orchid Society starting up in Yuma

Yuma Orchid Society meets the 2nd Monday of the month at 10:00 AM.

Meetings are usually at the restaurant inside the Fortuna de Oro RV Park at 13650 N Frontage Road, for lunch, an orchid clinic and a short meeting Oct through May.  For specifics watch local newspaper, Desert Region section the Thurs before the first Monday of the month.

YOS meets Oct. through May.

February 6 Program:
Orchid Species Face Threats in Many Places

 

Marge From, Head of the Laboratory for Rare and Endangered Plants at Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo, will present a PowerPoint program that will show, in addition to Madagascar, threatened areas in Panama and North America. Her program will inform us about what is at stake with the continuing loss of biodiversity.

 

Time: 7:00 PM

Place: Training Center, Arizona State Veteran Home

       4141 S. Herrera Way (N. 3rd St. – north of Indian School), Phoenix

 

Refreshments will be served, and visitors are welcome!

 

OSA will be participating in the Annual Maricopa County Home and Garden Show held at the University of Phoenix Stadium, 1 Cardinals Way, Glendale, AZ

 Dates and hours that the event is open to the public:

     Friday, March 2        10 AM – 6 PM

 Saturday, March 3        10 AM -  6 PM

  Sunday,    March 4         10 AM -  5 PM

 

In previous years, our participation in this event has been highly successful and a lot of fun! As usual, the orchids for sale in our booth will be hand-selected plants.

If you click on the Attend the Show link, you will find a link for directions to the stadium. Also note on the Attend the Show link that SENIOR DAY IS FRIDAY FROM 10 AM – 12 NOON. $1.00 admission for all Seniors “60 and over”.

 A food court and ATM machines will be available.
